Enterprise is making its way into the autonomous technology realm, as the rental car company has entered into an agreement with self-driving vehicle startup Voyage to manage its fleet of autonomous vehicles.
In a blog post on its website, Voyage, which offers door-to-door transportation for senior citizens in select communities across the U.S., announced that it has tapped Enterprise procure, lease, and service its 12-vehicle fleet. The vehicles, dubbed the “second generation vehicles,” are based on the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid mini-van.
“Like Enterprise, Voyage understands that world-class fleet management is fundamental to the long-term success of autonomous fleets,” Brice Adamson, senior vice president at Enterprise Fleet Management, said in a statement. “Our partnership ensures that the Voyage team is able to focus on what they do best — developing autonomous technology and providing transportation services to community residents — without having to worry about acquiring and maintaining those vehicles.”
As part of the terms of the partnership, Voyage will retrofit the Enterprise lease vehicles with self-driving hardware. Upon completion of the lease term, the vehicles will be returned to Enterprise.
According to Business Insider, under the terms of the agreement, it is possible for the two companies to expand their collaboration in the future.
