European Electric Car Manufacturers Target Rental Fleets for Sales
In light of disappointing retail sales volume, European manufacturers of electric cars are increasingly relying on sales to rental fleets, The Detroit News reported.
The Detroit News reported April 12 European car manufacturers are selling their electric vehicles to car rental companies because of a lack of private buyers.
According to the Automotive Industrial Data (AID) newsletter, electric vehicles have a market share of only 0.23%, despite a 39% increase in sales.
A price difference of nearly $20,000 for an electric vehicle versus a gasoline version deters buyers from purchasing an electric vehicle.
