A $2 million car rental complex is expected to be added to Florida’s Port Canaveral, according to a report by Florida Today. With the plan approved by port commissioners, port staff can now reach out to car rental companies that could be interested in opening at the port.

Mike Meekins, Port Canaveral’s senior director of cruise and port operations, told Florida Today that the port will have enough room for three rental companies and a total of 571 vehicles. In addition, the fees charged to rental companies — through their lease agreements — would provide more revenue for the port.

Located near Disney Cruise Line’s terminal 8, the new rental facility would include office space, a fueling station and a car wash, says the report. Currently, Payless Car Rental is the only car rental agency on Port Canaveral property, and it’s interested in joining the proposed car rental facility.

“It makes Port Canaveral that much more desirable a location to sail,” Tom Weinberg, chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority, told Florida Today. “It will be a win-win for the port and the rental companies on-site and a significant advantage for our passengers.”
