Designed to be an efficient, convenient way for travelers to move between rental car companies and airline terminals, the rental car garage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport needs major repairs three years after its completion. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that heavy rain caused flooding by mid-2005 and that the center experienced mold problems by 2006.
In early May, airport officials, contractors and architects agreed to share the $1.7 million needed to pay for repairs, said the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The airport plans to install pumps to divert flooding water. However, some experts said that it will take more than pumps to solve the problems. Independent evaluations suggested that the problems are due to a bad location, an improperly built first floor and lack of maintenance by the RACs.
