The Hertz Corp. celebrated the placement of the last piece of structural steel to its new global headquarters in Estero, Fla., with a “topping out” ceremony. More than 125 Hertz and Turner Construction employees, who witnessed the signing of the beam, were in attendance for its final placement.

The official groundbreaking of the headquarters took place last November, with the project set to be completed in 2015, says Hertz. The headquarters building is intended to house at least 700 employees upon completion.

“Today we’re celebrating an important milestone in the construction of our new headquarters — a building aligned with our vision as an innovative and sustainable company,” said Todd Poste, Hertz executive vice president of global supply chain and administration. “We are committed to creating a world-class building that is targeted to achieve LEED Gold certification while ensuring a best-in-class work environment for our employees.”

Dedicated to minimizing its environmental footprint through efficiency improvements, resource management and renewable energy production, the new headquarters building will apply best practices in sustainable design and construction — from energy-efficient lighting and equipment to recycled building materials and finishes to the installation of solar panels and water-saving fixtures, says Hertz.

In May 2013, Hertz announced moving global headquarters to Estero, Fla., following the November 2012 acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group. As of November 2013, Hertz established temporary operations in Naples and Bonita Springs, Fla., while the Estero building is under construction.
