Louisiana Bill to Raise Rental Car Tax
House Bill 585 would allow Louisiana’s Jefferson Parish voters to decide if they want a half-cent sales tax increase on rental cars.
House Bill 585 would allow Louisiana’s Jefferson Parish voters to decide if they want a half-cent sales tax increase on rental cars, according to an article by The Advocate. Sponsored by Rep. Julie Stokes (R-La.), the rental car tax would help support local arts programs.
The bill was approved by the Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs Committee last week, according to the report. One-third of the tax would be given to the city of Kenner, La., for arts and recreation and the remainder would be split among other arts programs.
The rental car tax at Kenner’s Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is already at 25%, Alexis Hocevar, vice president/general manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, told The Advocate.
