Lyft filed a brief in a federal appeals court Thursday in support of a lawsuit brought against the Environmental Protection Agency's plan to weaken the automotive industry's fuel standards set during the Obama Administration, The Hill reports.

The lawsuit, led by environmental groups and Democratic states, argues that the Trump Administration violated procedure when it announced in April that it would be weakening the standard. The new standard hasn't been finalized.

“Lyft relies on EPA’s greenhouse gas standards both to reduce fuel costs for drivers and to help make its rides carbon-neutral,” the brief reads, in part. “Drivers that use Lyft need fuel-efficient cars to make the service more economic, and both Lyft and its riders count on that fuel efficiency to reduce costs and protect the environment.”

Last year, Lyft committed to making all of its rides carbon neutral. The ride-hailing company says weakening the standards will hurt its business, as it needs automakers to produce fuel efficient vehicles en masse.
