Manheim Offers Clients Extra Protection for Digital Purchases

The added protection comes at a time when a shortage of transporters has converged with more dealers buying vehicles on digital marketplaces.

Manheim is giving clients two extra days to arbitrate if a vehicle arrives outside of the standard 10-day timeframe as part of its Digital Buyer Protection program that covers digital purchases and shipping via Ready Logistics, according to an Oct. 21 news release.

This arbitration extension will give dealers the extra time to evaluate vehicles and file a claim, if needed. This feature comes during a shortage of transporters resulting in more dealers buying vehicles digitally.

“With most clients purchasing vehicles digitally, we’re doing everything we can to deliver a seamless, intuitive and connected experience for our clients,” said Connie Suozzo, vice president of Manheim Digital, in the news release. “This arbitration extension is another way we’re showing clients we’re committed to giving them fewer hassles when they buy vehicles digitally in the Manheim Marketplace and use Ready Logistics for transportation.”

Arbitration extension provides clients who purchase a vehicle through any one of Manheim’s digital sales channels (Simulcast, Manheim.com, Manheim Express, and OVE) and transport that vehicle with Ready Logistics an additional two days to file an arbitration claim, should a transport delay occur and the vehicle arrives outside of the standard arbitration time period. To be eligible, clients must order transportation through Ready Logistics within two days of purchase.

Ready Logistics, a Manheim Logistics brand, provides full-service vehicle transportation services, offering clients a white-glove experience with a network of 6,500+ fully vetted carriers. Manheim has invested tens of millions of dollars over the last two years to transform the logistics business and enhance the client experience.

About 80% of Manheim’s purchases are going to digital buyers, and data from Manheim Logistics shows that these dealers are buying vehicles from farther away. In 2021, Manheim Logistics has seen the average distance of vehicle moves by dealers double, going from 225 miles in Q1 2020 to 455 miles on average in Q1 2021 and staying around 460 average miles in Q3 2021. Given the longer distances, the additional two days to file an arbitration claim makes sense for clients.

Launched in January 2021, Digital Buyer Protection is an umbrella offering for digital buyers purchasing on Simulcast, Manheim.com, Manheim Express and OVE. The program applies to digital purchases and has expanded the number of items eligible for arbitration on condition reports that result from inspections performed at a Manheim location or by a Manheim Express Concierge.
