The Massachusetts House of Representatives voted 145-4 to approve a $2 surcharge on car rentals to help fund police training across the state, the AP reports.
The fee is expected to raise around $10 million a year for the newly created Municipal Police Training Fund, supporters say. Earlier this week, the Senate approved a similar plan as part of a budget proposal.
One representative who voted against the fee said that the Legislature could have found the money elsewhere in a $40 billion budget.
