An Ottowa man has been charged with 17 counts of theft and fraud in the disappearance of rental cars in Ottawa, some of which were later found in Montreal, according to AOL News.

Olivier Olympio, 30, of Ottawa faces nine counts of theft over $5,000 and eight counts of fraud over $5,000 upon his arrest, Ottawa police said.

He is accused of renting higher-end cars such as the Chrysler 300, Lincoln MKX and Toyota RAV4 from different rental companies, including several at the Ottawa airport, and then not returning them. Eleven were subsequently reported stolen.

Four of the cars have since been recovered from Montreal, including three from shipping containers in the city's port that were headed to other countries.

Olympio allegedly used his own driver’s license, from the West African country Togo, to obtain an Ontario G1 license and then a credit card. He then used those to rent vehicles and return them, before renting vehicles of higher value, including many at the same time, police allege. When the vehicles were not returned, the rental companies tried to contact him and got no response, Pidcock said.

In addition to the police warrant, a Canada-wide immigration warrant has been issued for Olympio, who is believed to have left the country.
