Police believe that a Scottish gang has set up fake companies to agree to rent high-end vehicles which are never returned, according to a report by the Daily Record. One rental business in England lost 200,000 pounds worth of luxury vehicles, including BMWs and Range Rovers.

This gang poses as corporate clients that agree to rent single cars and entire fleets; they provide registered company details as well as insurance certificates, says the report. But the paperwork is based on false information.

The rental companies only realize that they have been cheated when they send out an invoice, says the report.

Police believe that the gang has repeated the fraud with several other rental companies. A source revealed that two of the vehicles have been traced in central Scotland, according to the report. The investigation involves the Police Scotland, Greater Manchester Police, and the National Crime Agency’s economic crime command.
