SEARCHCar rental company owners and employees were recently warned by police that they will be considered liable for renting out vehicles to drivers without a valid driver’s license.
According to Sri Lanka newspaper Sunday Observer, police can charge owners of car rental companies with aiding and abetting those who commit crimes in a rental car, if the company rented out the vehicle to someone who did not hold a valid driver’s licenses.
Recent crimes involving a rental vehicle have led police to issue a warning to rent-a-car companies’ owners and employees, the article states.
Police media spokesperson Ajith Rohana cautioned companies to be careful when renting out vehicles and that they should always check if a potential driver holds a valid driver's license.
