Sri Lanka Rental Car Companies Could Face Charges for Vehicles Involved in Crimes
Car rental company owners and employees were recently warned by police that they will be considered liable for renting out vehicles to drivers without a valid driver’s license.
According to Sri Lanka newspaper Sunday Observer, police can charge owners of car rental companies with aiding and abetting those who commit crimes in a rental car, if the company rented out the vehicle to someone who did not hold a valid driver’s licenses.
Recent crimes involving a rental vehicle have led police to issue a warning to rent-a-car companies’ owners and employees, the article states.
Police media spokesperson Ajith Rohana cautioned companies to be careful when renting out vehicles and that they should always check if a potential driver holds a valid driver's license.
