Average wholesale values fell modestly and in line with typical seasonal patterns in August. Prices were again up on a year-over-year basis largely because of the continued price strength of trucks and a richer mix of younger, lower-mileage, higher-priced, off-lease units, according to the latest Kontos Kommentary from ADESA Chief Economist Tom Kontos.
According to ADESA Analytical Services’ monthly analysis of Wholesale Used Vehicle Prices by Vehicle Model Class, wholesale used vehicle prices in August averaged $10,738 — down 0.6% compared to July but up 4.6% relative to August 2015. Once again, cars were down on a year-over-year basis (-1.3%) while trucks were up significantly (7.3%), which led to the overall year-over-year increase.
