A transit bill in Georgia that would generate tens of millions of dollars is being backed by Uber, AJC reports.

HB 511 would eliminate the state sales tax on rides for hire and replace it with a flat fee. Taxi, limo, and ride-hailing rides would include a 50-cent flat fee, and shared rides, like UberPool, would be subject to a 25 cent charge.

While the bill did not get the endorsement of the state's transportation board, Uber backed the legislation, as the company says its services are complementary to public transportation.
