Wisconsin SERTA Votes Down Car Rental Fee Hike, for Now
The Wisconsin fee to help support a rail project could come up for a vote again next month, however.
The Southeastern Regional Transit Authority voted on Dec. 18 not to reinstate a $2 rental car fee that had been charged to help pay for planning of the Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee (KRM) commuter rail proposal, according to the Kenosha News.
The authority can levy up to $18 per rental transaction to support the local costs of KRM’s development.
A majority of the board favored delaying any fee until a KRM grant plan is finalized. Former Kenosha mayor John Antaramian said nobody on the board has shown an interest in levying the full $18.
The question of the fee could come up again next month, after the authority has a clearer idea of KRM’s costs, according to the Kenosha News article.
