To provide more sustainable and convenient transportation options, Zipcar and Metrolinx — Ontario’s regional transportation agency for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area — have teamed up to add six Zipcars that will be located on three GO Transit lines.

The availability of these Zipcar vehicles will allow members increased access to these communities and encourages the use of public transportation, says Zipcar.

“We know from Zipcar members that transit trips are often combined with car sharing,” said Christian Demers, general manager at Zipcar Ontario. “Some Zipsters ride the rails to get to a Zipcar, while others use Zipcar to get from a station to their destination. By adding the option of Zipcar along these transit lines, we increase mobility options for our members in the area and provide more choice to GO riders.”

As of May 1, the car-sharing vehicles are available on the Lakeshore West Line at Port Credit, Long Branch and Mimico; on the Lakeshore East Line at Eglinton and Scarborough; and on the Richmond Hill Line at Richmond Hill.

“At GO Transit, we’re working to bring more travel options to the region,” said Greg Percy, president of GO Transit. “As we increase GO service, we’re adding amenities like Zipcar at our GO stations to bring more transportation alternatives to our regular and occasional passengers.”

Rates start at $9.25 per hour and $79 per day, says Zipcar. The rates include gas, a reserved parking spot, insurance, roadside assistance and up to 125 miles per day.
