Zipcar has expanded its car-sharing service and added two vehicles to several communities in the Chicago area.

A Ford Focus Sedan named “Windycity” and a Mazda 3 named “Malawi” were added to Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago, according to Zipcar. This will now stretch Zipcar’s service north to Waukegan, south to South Shore and west to Oak Park.

Additionally, the cars are available in the surrounding suburbs of O'Hare and Midway airports, including Deerfield, Waukegan, Great Lakes (North Chicago), Lake Forest, Skokie, Oak Park, Forest Park, Rosemont, Wheaton, Naperville Highland Park, Evanston and Prairie Crossing, says Zipcar.

“Zipcar's gradual expansion into the suburbs over the past year is part of our 'build from the inside out' approach to growing markets, which allows us to better develop our car-sharing offering by drawing from our strong membership in cities and bringing it to connected suburban communities,” said Charles Stephens, general manager of Zipcar Chicago. “These additional locations mean that members in these neighborhoods will now have access to 'wheels when they want them' as a convenient alternative or supplement to car ownership.”

According to Zipcar, rates in Chicago start at $8.50 per hour and $74 per day, with gas, insurance and 180 miles included.
