Zipcar and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) system have partnered to add Zipcar’s carsharing service to four new stations: Chamblee Station, Doraville Station, Lakewood/Ft. McPherson Station, and East Point Station.
The six new vehicles at these four stations join the 23 Zipcars currently located at the North Springs, Brookhaven/Oglethorpe, Lindbergh Center, Arts Center, Midtown, Inman Park/Reynoldstown, Edgewood/Candler Park, East Lake, Avondale, West End and College Park stations.
“Our partnership with MARTA allows our members to access more cars in even more places, making it easier than ever to live car-free or car-lite in Atlanta,” said Vilaire Lazard, Zipcar’a general manager. “Members can hop off the train and into a Zipcar in a matter of seconds, providing them with the freedom and flexibility to ‘zip and ride’ to get where they need to go.”
In 2012, Zipcar and MARTA first partnered by locating Zipcars at eight MARTA stations. With growing demand, Zipcar wanted to expand outside of the Perimeter to provide more residents and visitors with convenient access to transportation along MARTA stations, according to the company.
These new Zipcars bring the Atlanta fleet to a total of 140 vehicles. Each reservation includes gas, insurance, and 180 miles of driving per day.
“Zipcar will allow our customers to have greater connectivity throughout metro Atlanta and beyond,” said Keith T. Parker, MARTA’s general manager and chief executive officer. “As more people choose MARTA as their preferred mode of transportation, we value partnerships that allow our customers to be even more mobile.”
