Fleet sales overall in the three key fleet markets are tracking close to 2023 levels, with only one month of sales left in 2024, according to monthly Bobit fleet sales data released on Dec. 4.

Fleet sales through November 2024 were 1,947,046, down only 1.6% from 1,977,943 vehicles sold during the first 11 months of 2023. 2024 fleet sales began flatlining in July.

  • Commercial fleet sales so far this year stand at 749,413 vehicles, down 8.4% from 818,476 fleet vehicles sold in Jan.-Nov. of 2023.

  • Rental fleet sales are slightly up/down YTD at 944,444, for an increase of 3.9% compared to 909,027 rental vehicles sold during the same period of 2023.

  • Government fleet sales reached 253,189 vehicles sold YTD, up 1.1% from 250,440 sales in the same period last year.

The combined sales for the three fleet sectors in November totaled 139,989 vehicles, down 4.6% from the November 2023 total of 146,685 fleet vehicle sales. Fleet sector breakdowns of November 2024 versus November 2023 sales:

  • Commercial Fleets: 53,694 vehicles were sold into commercial fleets in November, compared to 59,189 in November of last year, for a decline of 9.3%.

  • Rental Car Fleets: 67,948 vehicles were sold into rental fleets in November, compared to 67,984 in November 2023, for a 0.1% decrease.

  • Government Fleets: Sales fell 6% to 18,347 vehicles in November from 19,512 vehicles in November 2023.(Note: Direct comparisons with government fleet sales are partial because one or more OEMs do not report sales month to month. In November, Hyundai, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota did not report sales to government fleets.)

"Through November, new vehicle sales into the rental fleets were up by over 35,000 units, or 3.9%, versus 2023," said vehicle remarketing industry economist and analyst Tom Kontos. "This bodes well for the availability of well maintained, late-model, off-rental, used units in 2025."
