The American Car Rental Association (ACRA) has appointed Don Lefeve as its new executive director, underscoring the business group’s efforts to expand its influence in Washington, D.C.
Lefeve will advocate for policies that benefit car rental companies and consumers nationwide. He brings extensive experience in association leadership, government relations, and corporate affairs, having successfully led advocacy efforts at the federal and state levels. He has helped shape legislative outcomes over more than two decades of engaging with policymakers, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders.
“We are excited to welcome Don Lefeve as ACRA’s new Executive Director,” “His extensive experience in association management and government relations will be instrumental as ACRA continues to advocate for pro-business policies for the car rental industry," said Sharky Laguana, president of the ACRA Board of Directors, in a Feb. 5 news release. "With Don’s leadership, ACRA can expand its presence in Washington, D.C. and drive meaningful policy change.”
Lefeve most recently served as vice president of corporate affairs at Forterra, a leading autonomous technology company, and previously as the president and CEO of the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA), where he delivered increased membership, revenue, and industry influence.
“I am humbled by the board’s trust in me to lead this organization at such a pivotal moment for ACRA,” said Don Lefeve, executive director of ACRA, in a news release. “The car rental industry is a critical driver of the U.S. economy, supporting jobs, travel, and commerce across the nation. With key legislative and regulatory issues on the horizon, including tax policies, mobility issues, and consumer protection, I look forward to working closely with our members, lawmakers, and stakeholders to advance smart, forward-looking policies that foster innovation, competition, and long-term growth.”
Lefeve succeeds executive director Sharon Faulkner, who is staying on as membership director. She has served as executive director since November 2010. Faulkner has worked in the car rental industry for over 35 years, most notably as the owner of the upstate New York Dollar and Thrifty rental car franchise operations that she sold shortly before taking the ACRA position.
"Sharon has been a cornerstone of ACRA, dedicating years of service to strengthening our association and fighting for our industry," said Laguana in a Feb. 6 clarification to a press release announcing Lefeve. "Her passion, dedication, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in shaping ACRA into what it is today. We are incredibly grateful for all she has done and are thrilled that she will remain a part of our team in this new advisory role."
