AAA Mid-Atlantic said customers will pay an average of $45 per day for a rental car this summer, compared with an average of $31 per day last summer, an increase of 45 percent, Baltimore Business Journal reports. Rental rates in 2007 were up 4.4 percent from 2006.
To keep car rental costs lower this summer, AAA Mid-Atlantic suggested shopping around because rates can vary widely within the same area. It also recommended avoiding airport rentals, where additional taxes paid by car rental agencies are passed on to customers.
