NEW YORK –- Avis' revenue in the first quarter was up 7% compared to the same period last year, according to Cendant's quarterly report. Avis generated $625 million in revenue, compared to $582.77 million in the first quarter of 2003.
The average length of rental dipped 2%, from 3.7 days in 2003's first quarter to 3.62 days. Daily dollar average climbed 5%, from $39.93 to $41.80. Rental day sales volume increased 2%, from 13.09 million to 13.34 million.
Budget's first-quarter truck rental revenue was down 15%, dropping from $108.34 million to $91.88 million. Car rental revenue fell 2%, from $290.14 million to $284.13 million. Total revenue from car and truck rental was down 6%, from $398.49 million to $376.02 million.
Budget's average length of rental for the quarter was 4.09 days, compared to 4.12 days in the same period in 2003. The daily dollar average rose 1%, from $35.64 to $35.88. Car rental day sales volume dipped 2%, from 6.75 million to 6.65 mil-lion.
