On a test basis, Avis Rent A Car is making Alpine Electronics' new portable satellite navigation system available to customers at five key airport locations in California, New York and Florida.
Known as PowerNAV, the DVD-based satellite navigation system will be available for a daily charge of $6.95 to customers upon request at the international airports in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, New York (John F. Kennedy) and Palm Beach.
"For the first time in our industry, renters needing navigational assistance are not limited to certain vehicles, since the device can be installed in virtually all of them," said Ronald Masini, Avis vice president of research and development.
