Starting in June, car2go’s car-sharing service will launch in Los Angeles’ South Bay region with 150 smart fortwo vehicles.

This marks car2go’s 14th market in North America and the first in the Los Angeles region, says the company. Other U.S. cities include San Diego, Austin, Portland, Seattle, Denver and Miami.

The vehicles will be located in the Home Area, where members can pick up or drop off a car2go vehicle 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Home Area covers approximately 28 square miles including the cities of El Segundo, Hawthorne, Torrance, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Lomita.

"We are thrilled to become part of the South Bay community by providing the most convenient, true point-to-point and technologically-advanced car-sharing service in the world," said Nicholas Cole, president and CEO of car2go North America. "The South Bay is setting the example in Los Angeles County with a progressive solution to how they travel within the area — and we are proud to provide a service that will bring a positive impact to the everyday lives of residents and visitors alike."

To celebrate the launch, car2go is offering free member registration, along with 30 minutes of drive time credit, for a limited time using the promotional code SURF.
