Connect by Hertz, The Hertz Corporation's global car sharing club, has expanded into five more universities this semester, making Connect available at 46 schools across North America.

"The Connect by Hertz car sharing service is perfect for students and staff living on campus who don't otherwise have access to a personal vehicle," said Mark P. Frissora, chief executive officer and chairman of Hertz. "The demand for car sharing is growing at universities because it's the most cost efficient way to drive a car and not worry about loan payments, insurance, maintenance, parking and other costs associated with vehicle ownership."

The new campus locations include University of Nevada Reno (Reno, NV); BYU Hawaii (Laie, HI); in addition to State University of New York at New Paltz (New Paltz, NY); and Georgia College and State University (Atlanta, GA). Connect by Hertz services were made available at these universities starting January 20.

"With Connect, we're able to offer universities the most sophisticated car sharing technology to create great customer experiences. Car sharing also eases on-campus congestion and provides a sustainable transportation option for students, faculty and staff," Frissora said.

Connect by Hertz members pay a low, hourly rate, must be 18 years or older, and have a valid driver's license with a good driving record for at least one year prior to joining. Students, faculty, and staff can take advantage of their membership on campus and also benefit from reciprocal membership at any Connect by Hertz city in the world, including New York, London, Berlin, Madrid, Melbourne, and Paris.

Upon enrolling in Connect by Hertz, members receive a smart chip enabled Connect card, which gives them keyless entry to any car in the fleet that the member reserves. In the car, a hands-free audio kit connects members to a Member Care Center representative should they have questions, need assistance or need to extend their rental. The in-car technology also enables Connect by Hertz to "communicate" with the vehicle, enabling representatives to unlock, engage and locate vehicles. The technologically savvy cars are also equipped with iPod connectivity, NeverLost in-car navigation systems and EZ Pass transponders.
