TULSA, Okla. -- Dollar Rent A Car announced it will immediately halt its pilot program to thumbprint customers in 17 test cities because the program failed to produce the expected cost-savings. Dollar will not implement the program system-wide.
"Overall, customer response to the program was extremely favorable," said Jim Senese, vice president of quality assurance for the company. "More than 99% of customers who rented from Dollar during the test period supported the program. Law enforcement agencies also applauded our efforts. The decision was made to discontinue the thumb print test program as the anticipated savings did not materialize enough to justify continuing the program."
Senese also noted Dollar will continue to research cost-effective security measures, taking every precaution to remain a low-cost provider to customers.
