Enterprise, Commuter Railroad Reach Rental Deal
Commuters between New York City and Connecticut will be able to reserve an Enterprise car that they can pick up when they arrive at one of 22 train stations in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess or Orange counties.
Metro-North Railroad, which serves commuters between New York City and Connecticut, plans to team up with Enterprise Rent-A-Car to give travelers a cheaper car rental option to get where they need to go, according to the Journal News.
Starting in May or June, Metro-North passengers will be able to reserve an Enterprise car that they can pick up when they arrive at one of 22 train stations in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess or Orange counties. And they'll get a 5 percent discount on the cost of the rental.
The car-rental agency will meet customers' trains and take them to the rental office, where they can pick up a car to complete their journey. On the way back, customers can drop off their cars in any metered spot at the station and put the keys in a drop box, according to Randall Fleischer, director of business development and facilities for Metro-North Railroad.
The program is also a new source of income for the railroad, which will be paid $40,000 a year for the first five years, with slightly higher payments to the railroad if they renew an option for the next five years, according to the Journal News.
