Enterprise's subsidiary in Baltimore has been ordered by a federal judge to pay over $6.6 million in back wages and benefits to more than 2,300 black applicants who were rejected by the federal contractor's management trainee program.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the applicants were turned down because of their race. It's the largest back wages award ever under the Department of Labor’s federal contract compliance program.

The Enterprise subsidiary is also prohibited from participating in current or future government contracts until specific steps are taken to to mend the effects of past discrimination and ensure it does not happen in the future.

Linthicum-based Enterprise RAC Company of Baltimore had a federal contract for rentals worth more than $10,000.
