Enterprise Settles 100,000 Unpaid Tolls in Harris County
According to the Houston Chronicle, the $1.15 million settlement is the largest in the history of the Harris County Toll Road Authority.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Harris County Toll Road Authority came to a $1.15 million settlement for about 100,000 unpaid toll violations, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The original bill, which included attorney and administrative fees from the county, would have been $4.5 million, while the actual unpaid tolls amounted to $283,541. The unpaid tolls dated as far back as 2003.
Texas law requires car rental companies to report a violator’s information within 30 days in order to put responsibility for the tolls onto the rental car customer; however, processing paperwork took longer on both sides than expected, the Chronicle reports.
The issues that culminated to a buildup of unpaid violations have been corrected, according to both Enterprise and the toll authority, while Enterprise has also reported that it’s now using a vendor, which pays the county when an Enterprise license plate is flagged in violation and charges the customer’s credit card with the unpaid toll, as well as a fee.
