To make the rental process easier and more efficient for its #1 Club Gold customers renting from airport locations, Hertz employed ZAMBA Solutions, a consultancy and business solutions provider. ZAMBA Solutions designed and implemented Hertz’ second generation Gold Electronic Manifest (GEM).
This second phase of the GEM system builds on the first, which was built by ZAMBA in 1996. New features of GEM II include a web-based backend, an open object-oriented design and wireless communication.
The new system allows Hertz customers to go from shuttle to rental car without stopping to wait in line. When #1 Club Gold members get on the shuttle bus, their names are electronically transmitted to the Hertz Gold Booth. At the time the customers arrive at the lot, their rental stall is illuminated with their name, the trunk is open and the keys are in the ignition.
