The Hertz Corp., together with the European private high speed railway operator, Italo-NTV, launched smart fortwo electric vehicles (EVs) in Rome for Italo NTV train customers.

The initiative, introduced on June 19, is part of the Manifesto di Roma Capitale (Rome Manifesto) to increase the number of EVs and other sustainability initiatives in Italy's capital city.

Starting at $10 per hour for Italo NTV users, the EVs will be available to rent from Hertz locations at the Rome Tiburtina and Rome Ostiense train stations.

On a fully charged battery, the smart fortwo can travel up to 90 miles with zero emissions. Drivers can charge their vehicle at charging units provided by Enel, Italy’s largest electric utility.

In addition, customers will be able to park throughout Rome for free.

“Through our close cooperation with Italo-NTV, the operator's customers can easily go from the train to electric vehicle to get to their final destination,” said Hertz Italy General Manager Massimiliano Archiapatti. “The smart fortwo electric drive's offer a fun and perfect solution to move about in the city and will help support the Rome Manifesto for electric vehicles.”
