The car rental industry has lent its solid support to the Libous/Klein senate bill in New York, which seeks to change the state's current rental car liability cap. The bill is currently in committee.
"We're very much together on this," said Patrick Farrell, director of corporate communications for Enterprise. "This is not about one company versus another. It's about what's appropriate and fair for the consumers of New York."
Since 1989, state law has required that car rental operators be responsible for all but $100 in collision damages. In the years since the law went into effect, more than 63% of car rental companies in the state have gone out of business because of the resulting financial losses.
