A judge in New York City temporarily blocked a surcharge on taxis and ride-hailing vehicles that was set to take effect in order to reduce traffic congestion and raise money for public transit, the Washington Post reports.
The surcharge fee would have raised the price of a Lyft or Uber ride by $2.75 and a taxi ride by $2.50 in Lower Manhattan. A judge in Manhattan issued a temporary restraining order in late December after a group of drivers took legal action against the fee.
A court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow to determine if the restraing order will be restrained.
