KCI Facility Shows Off Its Floors
Denver architectural firm honored for flooring design at Kansas City International Airport.

The National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association (NTMA) recently honored the Kansas City International Airport, Consolidated Rental Car and Customer Service Building as Job of the Year at its 2008 Honor Awards, recognizing excellence in terrazzo installations.
Coover-Clark & Associates, Inc., a Denver-based commercial architecture and design firm, led the architectural and interior design efforts on this facility, including the award-winning terrazzo floor design. The terrazzo incorporated the traditional cement and marble chips along with recycled glass and a polished finish.
The NTMA recognized 13 terrazzo projects at the 2008 Honor Awards in April. Of more than 40 submissions, Coover-Clark & Associates earned Job of the Year for its creative design and ability to transform the Consolidated Rental Car Terminal into a welcoming entrance to Kansas City.
As the designer on the project, Coover-Clark used the floors to greet guests with dynamic color and intricate design patterns. The 12-color design represents the history and geography of the region through vibrant colors and rolling river-inspired lines. Terrazzo was the natural choice for the flooring due to its durability, flexibility and limitless design options.
