Several people who rent cars through the Turo platform at Salt Lake City International Airport have reported being stopped by law enforcement while exchanging their vehicles in passenger pick-up areas outside the terminals, KUTV reports. They reportedly face legal consequences.
The airport issued a draft permit to Turo that would allow it to operate legally, though the airport and Turo have not yet agreed on terms.
Michelle Peacock, Turo vice president of government relations, told KUTV that the company wants to be regulated differently than a traditional car rental company.
“Please regulate us as a peer-to-peer carsharing business; we will pay fees, we will share information, we will make this work,” she said.
