According to TBD, at least one car2Go vehicle has been mistakenly ticketed in Washington, D.C despite the city’s promise of fewer parking restrictions. car2go launched in Washington, D.C. on March 24.

While the policy is new to city officials, both car2go and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) say they are working together to clear up confusion regarding the parking rules.

Under an agreement with city officials, car2Go vehicles are allowed to park in any non-restricted metered or non-metered space as long as it is in the "home area" of the District. However, rush hour lanes, handicapped spaces, or any other marked spaces are not part of the agreement and users are required to pay for any tickets or towing due to vehicles “improperly or illegally parked.”

John Lisle, DDOT's chief spokesperson, said the city's local parking enforcement officials are not accustomed to seeing car2Go vehicles in the city and are not accustomed to their rules. He also acknowledged that members need to make sure they are aware of where they are parking and know the rules completely to avoid future tickets.

“If members do find a ticket on a car2Go, we ask that they put the ticket in the glove box and inform us,” said Katie Stafford, car2Go's communications manager for North America.
