In Ontario, Calif., a Fox Rent A Car employee was sentenced on Feb. 27 to three years of probation and counseling after he was accused of killing as many as 20 domestic rabbits that lived freely around the rental car office, reports the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
Shea Johnson, 22, was caught on video by a coworker “killing the animals by hitting them with his fists or slamming them against walls and fences,” the article states. Johnson pleaded no contest to one felony count of cruelty to animals, and a plea bargain agreement was reached Dec. 8, 2011.
Since the incident, a nonprofit has stepped in and has collected about one-third of the estimated 300 rabbits living around the location, the Daily Bulletin reports. Bunny Bunch, the rabbit rescue organization, is working to get the captured rabbits spayed and neutered and to find them homes.
