Saudi Car Rental Companies Look to Recruit Foreign Workers
Car rental companies in the region have had trouble filling positions such as drivers and mechanics.
Unable to find enough Saudis to fill positions such as drivers, mechanics, electricians and cleaners, car rental firms in Saudi Arabia may soon be allowed to recruit foreign workers, according to the Saudi Gazette.
Through a requirement by the Ministry of Labor, however, rental car companies in Saudi Arabia must still hire Saudis for cashier and customer service jobs. This is because the Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry called for a 4% Saudi worker quota for the car rental companies.
After getting to explain some of the industry's needs to the Minister of Labor Adel Fakieh in a recent committee meeting — such as the insufficient number of Saudi heavy-duty truck drivers — Saeed Al-Basami, deputy chairman of the National Transport Committee, said that Fakieh helped to resolve the Saudi recruitment problems faced by companies in the industry.
