SFO Offers Incentives to Rent Green
Officials at SFO hope to increase the rentals of higher mileage vehicles and hybrid cars to more than 15 percent.
The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is launching the nation’s first green rental car program, according to NBC Bay Area.
Customers who rent hybrid vehicles with an EPA rating of 18 or higher, such as the Honda Civic Hybrid, Nissan Altima or Toyota Prius, will receive a $15 discount at the counter.
Rental companies also stand to benefit from the program. If a company is able to rent more than 15 percent of hybrid cars or high mileage vehicles with an EPA rating of 17 or higher, it will qualify for a 20 percent reduction of its airport fees.
The new program will is expected to eliminate more than 4,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
