Parsippany, N.J. -- Avis Rent A Car System announced that its chairman and CEO, David N. Siegel, has accepted the position of president and CEO of US Airways Group.
Robert Salerno, who first joined Avis in 1982 and has been president and COO of Avis since 1996, will continue in that role and lead the company during the search for Siegel's successor.
Siegel, who joined Avis in September 2001, is a 10-year veteran of the airline industry, having served as an executive at both Northwest and Continental Airlines.
"After a very successful record as an airline executive, David could not resist the opportunity to head up an independent, publicly traded airline," said John Chidsey, chairman and CEO of Cendant's Vehicle Services Division. "While David's time at Avis has been short, we can certainly understand his decision to accept this leadership position at US Airways and return to the airline industry."
