Uber has agreed to pay the Dutch government 2.3 million euros ($2.6 million) to settle charges that the ride-hailing group violated transportation laws from 2014-2015, Tech Crunch reports.
Between July 2014 and November 2015, Uber offered a peer-to-peer ride-hailing service called UberPop in the Netherlands. The settlement states that Uber and its entities violated local taxi laws, which mandates transportation companies have a taxi license in order to operate; UberPop allowed anyone person with a vehicle to sell a ride.
The settlement also requires the person responsible for the launch of UberPop in Holland perform 90 hours of community service.
