UK Anti-Terrorism Program Created for Rental Car Companies
The voluntary scheme requires companies to follow a 10-point code of conduct that includes a commitment to reporting suspicious behavior, sharing data with law enforcement, and taking an electronic form of payment for at least a part of the transaction.

The Rental Vehicle Security Scheme follows several high-profile terrorist attacks in the U.K. and abroad that were perpetrated with a rental vehicle.
In an effort to prevent terrorists from using rental vehicles as part of attacks, the U.K. is launching a Rental Vehicle Security Scheme, which aims to help rental car company employees identify and report possible threats, Yahoo News reports.
The voluntary scheme, developed with input from industry stakeholders and experts, is open to all agencies that offer short-term rental vehicles.
It requires companies to follow a 10-point code of conduct that includes a commitment to reporting suspicious behavior, sharing data with law enforcement, and taking an electronic form of payment for at least a part of the transaction; if needed, these payments can be traced easily and quickly.
“Although those working in daily rental cannot and should not be expected to carry out the role of law enforcement, all UK citizens, including those working in our sector, have an important role to play in the fight against terrorism by being vigilant and reporting anything suspicious,” British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association chief executive Gerry Keaney told the news site. “We would encourage all those operating in short-term vehicle rental to register for the scheme.”
