Nevada’s Clark County commissioners are looking to add more guidelines for renting a vehicle in the exotic rental industry, according to a report by CBS 8.

From speeding to impairment, many exotic car rentals have been involved in car crashes, according to the report. Commissioners are looking at how they can regulate the industry.

According to Andrew Bennett from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, 8% to 12% of fatal crashes in Clark County involve a luxury rental car, and 95% of those crashes involve impairment.

More technology in vehicles could help. “Looking at the possibilities of ignition interlock is a program that we had in our state to reduce impaired driving,” Bennett told commissioners during a recent meeting. “There is an opportunity to do speed monitoring.”

Tony Catchings, general manager at Royalty Exotic Cars in Las Vegas, said that rental companies as well as customers should be regulated.

“We are pushing for more regulation in the industry to be able to say, yes, these people are properly vetted to drive a car that is 650, 700 or 800 horsepower,” he told CBS 8.

Now Clark County commissioners and the department of business licensing will examine data to create an ordinance that could regulate the exotic rental industry, according to the report.
