Federal travel spending dropped $1.3 billion to $14.1 billion in fiscal 2006, according to the Office of Management and Budget as reported in Government Executive Magazine.

The decrease was caused by a drop in military-related spending of $1.8 billion. But other government entities spent more on auto rentals, flights and hotels in 2006.

Government travelers spent the most with Hertz Corp. The company brought in $79.2 million, or 18.7 percent of all federal car rentals. Avis jumped Enterprise Rent-a-Car for second place, followed by Budget and National.
