Worldspan Adopts ACRISS Vehicle Codes, Expanded Availability System
New coding options for travel buyers include selecting between standard and elite vehicle categories or standard fuel types, including hybrid vehicles.
Atlanta-based global travel technology provider Worldspan L.P. has adopted the Association of Car Rental Industry Systems Standards (ACRISS) Car Classification System, representing a comprehensive new range of vehicle classification codes in the Worldspan global distribution system (GDS).
Worldspan's car rental distribution system has also been optimized to allow travel buyers to request up to 10 types of vehicles from car providers through a single entry.
The ACRISS Car Classification System is available to Worldspan travel agencies globally via the Worldspan Car Select booking system, and to Worldspan-connected travel Web sites.
Specific vehicle categories, including car types with late model accessories, such as navigation systems, are identifiable from a generous array of new coding options. Travel buyers can differentiate between standard and elite vehicle categories, and detailed types of vehicles, such as two-wheel-drive or four- wheel drive SUVs. Expanded fuel types can also be requested, including the new hybrid vehicles.
ACRISS, mainly comprised of car rental companies and the major GDSs, initiated the new industry-wide ACRISS Car Classification System to provide common standards for the car rental industry and travel retailers when distributing and booking car rental services through GDSs and other automated booking systems.
