Zipcar Offers Services in Austin, Texas
The effort is part of City of Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Coucil Member Chris Riley’s plan to foster a more pedestrian-friendly community.
Zipcar Inc. expanded its car-sharing network to Austin, Texas with a new location that opened on April 27, providing residents, businesses and visitors with additional transportation options.
The effort is part of City of Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Coucil Member Chris Riley’s plan to foster a more pedestrian-friendly community. Both believe Zipcar’s services will reduce downtown parking demand, traffic congestion and the city’s carbon footprint overall.
Hybrids, hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and pickup trucks make up the list of 40 vehicles that will be located throughout downtown Austin and on the University of Texas at Austin’s main campus.
With the expansion, Austin becomes Zipcar’s 18th major metropolitan market.
Businesses can participate in the company’s “Zipcar for Business” program that offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday.
All Zipcar hourly and daily rates include gas, reserved parking spots, insurance, roadside assistance and up to 180 miles of driving per day. Rates start at $7 per hour or $66 per day.
The new location is at 107 East 10th Street in Austin, Texas.
