“Didi believes AI-based innovation may contribute to new growth of taxi industry and the public transportation sectors,” Jean Liu, president of Didi Chuxing, said in a statement. “We look forward to developing extensive collaboration with all industry players to assist in smart city initiatives in Japan and Asia.”

In addition to the service, Didi will also add customized roaming features to its Didi Greater China app to include real-time in-app Chinese-Japanese instant message translation and local Chinese language user support.

The service will be available for riders, drivers, and taxi operators in Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Tokyo and other major Japanese cities starting this fall. The service will also expand Didi’s existing global operations and roaming services in Australia and Mexico.

Didi Chuxing serves more than 550 million users across 10 mobility platforms, and is the largest on-demand taxi-dispatcher, connecting over 200 million taxi drivers.
