The 3 minute service begins when the customer enters the Avis premises and time can be measured by the renter with a stop watch provided at the start of each rental process. If the time elapsed is over the three minutes, the customer will receive an apology, and a few days later, a retail voucher worth £20 (about $39) in the mail.

The launch of the 3 Minute Promise in the UK follows a successful trial and implementation of the service at 18 Avis locations in France, where, a 99.7 percent success rate is now achieved on average. The service is now available at over 390 locations across Europe.
