Seminars focused on topics ranging from technology solutions (RFID and GPS fleet management systems, Web services applications and rental software programs, to name a few) to government relations issues and changing regulations.

On the show floor, attendees had the opportunity to explore their options in product classes ranging from fleet vehicles to car wash systems. Exhibit booths also highlighted providers of insurance, subrogation, remarketing, employee training, and fleet financing services.

The event, held Sept. 12-14 at the Las Vegas Hilton, attracted more than 600 people. Auto Rental News sponsored the show. This year’s show featured presentations from several prominent industry leaders, including Chuck Fallon, executive vice president of revenue generation for Cendant Car Rental Group. His keynote address was titled, “Evolving Trends in Revenue Generation: The Art of the Relationship.”

Other industry leaders offering presentations included Robert Muhs, vice president of government affairs for Cendant Car Rental Group; Lee Kaplan, senior vice president and chief administrative officer for Enterprise Rent-A-Car; James Davidson, president and CEO of Farelogix; John Turato, vice president of technology for Cendant Car Rental Group; and Tom Webb, chief economist for Manheim. Upcoming issues of the magazine will include more highlights.

In response to rising fleet costs, event organizers made a special effort to increase focus on fleet planning strategies and vehicle remarketing trends. In addition to Webb’s remarketing analysis, two widely respected remarketing experts — Scott Lilja of NADA Official Used Car Guide and Jonathan Banks of Automotive Lease Guide — forecasted used car residual values and offered fleet planning advice. David McKay, senior director of auto finance and insurance for J.D. Power & Associates’ Power Information Network, served as moderator.

Highlights of some of the Car Rental Show sessions will appear in upcoming issues of the magazine.
