After operating in the Chinese city of Chongqing for two months, car2go already has more than 78,000 registered users, according to a report by Green Car Reports.

German carmaker Daimler launched its car2go carsharing service in the Chongqing municipality in May; this is car2go’s first city in the Asian market.

During the last two months, there have been over 40,000 rentals; this is equivalent to someone renting one of car2go’s 400 smart fortwo hatchbacks in Chongqing every 1.7 minutes, according to the report.

car2go’s 400 vehicles are spread out over 37.2 square miles in the central part of Chongqing, say the report.

In the past five years, car2go has expanded its carsharing service to 29 North American and European cities.
